Salam was founded in 1998 in Zichuinchor, Senegal.
At that time Thierno Barry played at cultural evenings and at the Alliance Franco/Senegal, together with another guitar player.
Thierno wanted more, however, so he started an adventurous journey, alone with his guitar. He moved to Abéné, a small village near Casamance river, where he met a fabulous percussion player. A new Salam was born.

Director Ari Folman’s animated, quasi-documentary Waltz With Bashir follows the filmmaker’s emotional attempt to decipher the horrors that unfolded one night in September of 1982, when Christian militia members massacred more than 3,000 Palestinian refugees in the heart of Beirut as Israeli soldiers surrounded the area.

Lake Vostok, Russian for “East,” is the biggest subglacial lake found underneath Antarctica. Andrey Kapitsa, as part of a Soviet expedition in 1959 and 1964, used seismic readings from the Soviet’s Vostok Station and theorized from his findings that there was a large, freshwater lake present underneath the ice. In 2005 there was an island in the middle of the lake discovered as well as two smaller, adjoining lakes. The documentary explores what the lake may be like and how it can inform our understanding of extraterrestrial life and what forms it can take.
